The global suncare market is projected to reach $16.84bn by 2027. Although it might not seem warm enough yet, the days are certainly getting lighter and with COVID-19 restrictions easing people are preparing for their summer getaways.
When it comes to suncream, the one-product-fits-all approach no longer prevails. Brands need to cater to a vast array of audiences – whether that’s combatting white cast for darker skin tones, or supplying break-out proof options that provide intense hydration. There’s also a growing awareness around ocean-friendly ingredients – meaning brands will have to steer towards more sustainable options.
With this in mind, we’ve picked some brands to stock up on ahead of your summer holiday.
If anyone can make good sun cream it’s got to be the Australians, right? First on our list is the well-known brand, Bondi Sands, founded back in 2012. Known globally for their range of tanning products, Bondi Sands sun care range contains both SPF and fake tan ingredients.
Their new non-greasy Hydra UV Protect SPF 50+ Face Fluid is the perfect blend of intense hydration and SPF protection without leaving a white cast. Not only this, its infused with ethically sourced algae which deeply nourishes and soothes the skin.
Eucerin’s branding is quite the contrast to our first recommendation but is by no means inferior. The dermatologist-recommended skincare brand is based on honest skin science claiming to sustain and restore skin’s health. They’ve recently been shortlisted for The Sunday Times STYLE Awards for ‘Best Suncare Saviour Range 2022.’
One of their new products is their Pigment Control Tinted Sun Cream Gel. It effectively reduces dark spots, helping prevent their re-appearance, and it’s tinted with colour pigments to help even skin tone.
Banana Boat are known for their quirky and fun marketing. Their brand identity is colourful and often takes a ‘fun-in-the-sun’ approach to all communication. However, in acknowledgment of the serious nature of their products, the brand created an innovative and informative new campaign aimed at educating families on how to protect themselves in the sun.
In an unusual approach, the brand launched a children’s book as the campaign’s centerpiece and uniquely printed using UV activated ink with a lead character ‘The Sizzledodge’ only appearing when exposed to the sun and delivering key parts of the message.
We love the creative campaign and applaud the brands focus on the importance of sun protection for both young and old people alike.
Uriage are a leading dermatological brand that focus on the health and condition of consumer’s skin. Their unique Thermal Water is present in all products and treat psoriasis, eczema, pruritus or atopy.
We particularly like their BARIÉSUN Cream SPF50+ that provides very high sun protection against UVA and UVB rays (this isn’t the case for all sun creams), is free radicals and prevents skin from drying out.
Uriage doesn’t stop there. The brand has a hotel with a spa and thermal baths located in Uriage-les-bains, France. The thermal baths offer treatments in dermatology, rheumatology and ENT and promises relaxation and well-being. Maybe check out Skyscanner flights to France also?
Launched in 2016, Mimitika is a French sun care brand protecting users from UVA and UVB rays whilst remaining vegan, cruelty-free and free from any allergen, paraben, PEG and nanoparticles.
Back in 2015, founder Audrey Delort-Laval, noticed that many people are still reluctant to apply sun cream despite bring knowledgeable on the dangers of skin damage from the sun’s rays. She decided to create a brand for sun lovers that delivered a smooth, lightweight SPF formulas, and contains an all natural, marine-based active that helps to improve melanin production for a quicker, more even tan.
Swedish sun care brand EVY Technology creates products especially made for sensitive skin and active life in the sun.
With several defining features, the brand most notably uses a patented medical skincare technology making their creams suitable for sensitive skins including those with eczema, allergies or albinism. The brand’s products offer long-lasting protection from both UVA and UVB rays, and act as a shield for skin against aggressors such as heat, wind, chlorinated water or algae (yes, algae).
In previous years EVY has launched campaigns such as #sunsafe where they put their products under a UV scanner to demonstrate how EVY acts as a UV shield and it keeps its integrity of protection up to six hours.
