Last weekend, the first inaugural London Menswear Collection lit up the capital with 60 presentations showcasing the latest men’s fashion. This first-ever three-day event showcased the work of up-and-coming designers to Britain’s best. In the past, menswear collection shows have been sparsely attended with shoes often as the main focal point, but this year proved different with a successful turnout and an outstanding response from the public.
The catwalk show consisted of a handful of male models parading down the runway in recurring themes such as sharp suits, creamy pastels and vivid patterns. The event started with Hackett’s collection consisting of three-piece tailored suits paired with baker boy hats inspired by the infamous novel and upcoming Baz Luhrmann film, “The Great Gatsby”.
Perhaps the most eccentric shows at the event was that of Meadham Kirchoff. The models adopted a strung-out addict look, with heavy eyeliner circling their eyes and gaudy earrings hanging from their ears. Embroidered sarongs and quilted dresses in excessively dyed blues and pinks draped from their bodies to match their brightly coloured hair.
One of the most energetic collections of the weekend belonged to Topman. The models, sporting long tip-dyed locks, showcased a diverse mix of bold prints, neon sportswear and silky trench coats. Other notable names included Sibling, Christopher Raeburn, Oliver Spencer and YMC.
With such a successful first London Menswear Collection show, one thing we can be sure of is the growing interest in men’s fashion. Singer Elton John and rapper Tinie Tempah were snapped sitting next to each other in the front row at Richard James’ Spring/Summer collection, with other familiar faces sitting nearby.
We hope this is just the beginning of the remarkable London Menswear Collection, with many extraordinary years to come.
