The PHA Group client Parkour Generations, the world’s largest professional parkour, or freerunning, organisation, are to open the UK’s first purpose-built indoor parkour and functional fitness facility next month.
The centre will act as the nation’s hub for parkour and functional fitness activity, hosting regular classes, open training, youth academies and a whole lot more.
The facility will be housed in the Chainstore building at Trinity Buoy Wharf, East London. The Chainstore is a Grade II listed building and is connected to London’s only working lighthouse.
With an existing community in the area and excellent transport links to and from Canary Wharf and the rest of the city, the centre will attract existing parkour enthusiasts, as well as those new to the sport.
The 420 square metre facility will offer daily parkour classes which will be delivered by NGB qualified parkour coaches. There will also be regular functional fitness and strength training classes to cater for the growing fitness market. With a dedicated strength and conditioning zone The Chainstore will also operate a drop-in policy for those wanting to train at any time of day.
The facility will also be used as a host space for regular parkour holiday camps for young people as well as a centre for training and certification courses. There will also be a multi-purpose workout space with rare ‘Harlequin’ sprung flooring which will be available to hire by the hour or day.
Dedicated parkour and functional fitness practitioners will be able to sign up as members of the facility for unlimited use, or pay on a pay-as-you-go basis.
The academy will open officially on Thursday 20th February.
