Being mid-January we felt it the right time to provide a few helpful hints on how to maintain those New Years Resolutions using Social Media.

The following mobile applications will help you beat the blues, save the cash, get fit and give up those nasty eating habits of 2011… well, what are you waiting for?

Lose those Pounds and keep fit:

If you want to eat less or move more then keeping track of your progress is a great way to motivate you forward…

Run Keeper – RunKeeper uses GPS and manual activity to keep track of your exercise. In each workout, calories, pace/speed and path taken of the run are recorded and stored. The app provides coaching and advice to keep you on target – this can be played into your ear via an earpiece during your workout.

Data is also synced to the Runkeeper website where you can monitor and look back at all your activities. Your workout history can then be shared on Facebook and Twitter – for your friends to look at. A sure way to keep you working hard!

– A mobile calorie counter that has a food database of over 1.1 million foods. This huge database of food items allows you to log nutritional stats, and make sure that your intake matches your daily goal. Information can be manually entered or done using a free barcode scanner – minimal effort!

The app also has exercise functions – making it easy to record activities and calories burned! MyfitnessPal will also allow you to add friends and track and support others progress.

iMapmyFitness – These apps use GPS to track your fitness activities. It will record duration, distance, pace, speed, calories burned, and route traveled on your mobile. This workout can then be uploaded to your own workout data to any of the MapMyFITNESS websites. This will allow you to track your progress- increasing motivation!

Money Saving apps:

Whatsapp: Worried about your phone bill this year? Here’s the solution… downgrade that contract and download Whatsapp. This is a free app available to all Android users. It links to your phonebook and you are free to contact all other Whatsapp users. Whatsapp sends SMS, pictures and videos using the Internet service available. A definite way to avoid a hefty phone bill creeping up on you!

Red Laser: Red laser is a free app available to iPhone and Android users. It allows you to scan the barcode of any item in store. It will then scan its database to find a cheaper alternative. This app is recommended for larger electronic items rather than smaller buys.

My Voucher Codes – This handy little app is available to all iPhone users and is free to download. With GPS technology it can help you track discounts for food, restaurants and shops in the area! With over 2000 voucher codes, it can ensure that you never pay full funds again!
