Some of my earliest childhood memories are from a magical trip to Walt Disney World in Florida when I was just 5 years old and generally thought the array of characters walking around the park were real. I remember queuing up for an autograph with a mixture of nerves and excitement at the prospect of actually shaking hands with the mouse himself! (The fact I learnt later that it was most likely a sweaty teenager in a suit is, of course, irrelevant.)
The reason for this sudden Disney nostalgia is thanks to a Facebook competition that we launched this week, searching for the nation’s most treasured Mickey and Friends memorabilia, and I am delighted to say that after raiding my parent’s attic I discovered my old autograph book and that precious Mickey autograph from 20 years ago!
And, brace yourselves, I even found a picture of 5 year old me clutching said book with pride whilst struggling to see through my giant Mickey hat – if only I’d kept that too!
But it’s not just me who discovered some Mickey treasures from the past, Shelley found this little gem lurking on her grandparent’s shelf; a present from her Mum after a trip to Disneyland in 1979!
And Amy shared her Baby Mickey, which was bought for her when she was born! Aw!
Have you got any Mickey memories to share? Enter the competition on the Disney Epic Mickey Facebook page and you could be in with the chance of having your treasured item displayed in a pop-up Disney galley in Westfield Stratford, and winning a trip to Disneyland Paris! https://www.facebook.com/#!/DisneyEpicMickeyUK/app_416384521750321
