There was a definitively British success streak at the Emmy’s last week with the likes of Damian Lewis and Maggie Smith bagging awards. However, the fashion success of the week was undeniably American. It was Zac Posen’s designs that caused a stir in the fashion stakes.
Posen’s designs were prominent along the red carpet and topped every “best dressed” list in the media. His bold use of colour proved to be distinctly wearable. Kelly Osbourne wore a gorgeous lavender creation, right on trend with this season’s block colour.
And we could not take our eyes off of Kelly Osbourne’s 267-carat black diamond nail varnish. Her lavish manicure faced backlash to which Kelly responded by tweeting “forgive me for not regretting it, it made me feel like a queen”! A bottle of the stuff comes priced at $250,000 from the haute couture jeweller Azature. Perhaps we will have to relegate this varnish to our ‘as-if wish list’. We’ll stick to OPI, I think. The new James Bond collection includes the rather fabulous The Living Daylights, which we saw previewed at the Olympia Beauty exhibition last week!
Mr. Posen also proved that his designs didn’t need to rely on colour to stand out – his sculptural take on the LBD worn by January Jones displayed his prowess in couture tailoring and innovation.
Red Carpet styling for the under-18s can prove to be a minefield. However, Kiernan Shipka (of Mad Men fame) wore a custom-made Zac Posen piece, that was age-appropriate whilst unrelentingly chic.
